Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak—wife of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the United Arab Emirates—has been a pioneering force on behalf of women’s rights and empowerment since the inception of the Union.

By encouraging women to pursue education and to participate in local, civic and national affairs, Sheikha Fatima has ensured equal opportunity for women of the UAE and paved the way for countless valuable contributions from Emirati women across all sectors of society.
Her guiding wisdom and many social initiatives continue to positively impact not only women but families and the nation as a whole. Her inspirational values of conservation, collaboration, sustainability and empowerment have emerged as valuable signposts toward a progressive future, and also serve as the founding principles for Mother of the Nation Festival.

Her Highness has held many prestigious roles in a variety of committees and institutions concerned with women and children’s affairs. Regionally and internationally she has chaired a number of organisations such as the Arab Women’s Organisation and the Regional Coordination Committee for Women’s Work in the GCC. For her ongoing efforts, Sheikha Fatima has been the recipient of over 500 awards and honors, thirty of them bestowed by the U.N.
